The loss of an innocent - a tribute

Yesterday a tragedy happened in the form of [two] deaths - one of whom was a fellow classmate and a dear friend to many. These youths perished right before graduation - and with a bright future ahead. They were gone before their time in a most horrendous car accident and today we went to pay our respects bearing flowers, at the scene of the accident.

We took the bus and walked - the road still smudged with what seemed like shrouded blood and sand-like stains in the concrete. There were already many fellow mourners on the side of the road. I remember sitting quietly, staring at the mountain of flowers, bouquets lined around. There was a soft breeze, the sound drowned by the cars zooming past, with occasionally honking of recognition and silent gesture of the cross for respect (though there were some insanely rude people, one baboonish idiot who actually had the nerve to stick his rude finger out). A girl wailed in sadness and sobs as her friend comforted her and many were trying to stay strong, one, in his feign, eventually broke down on the ground and sobbed.

I sat silent, occasionally holding my hands together to pray. I did not feel the same excruciating pain as those that were close to these boys. But this was the least we could do, he was, after all, our dear classmate and was a little bundle of talent - with a bright future - but taken from him. After this loss: school - art class, will not the same. Our fellow classmates will not be the same.

Was it irresponsible driving? Most likely. Our friend was the passenger. It is disrespectful to pin the blame on another that also perished - but perhaps if the driver (whom I did not know, but was a friend of the one I did know) had taken more caution and obeyed the rules, there would be no need to see such anguished, saddened and depressed faces. But a death, is nonetheless a death, and these youths did not deserve such a demise.

Friends, learn from this - cherish your time with those you love and drive safely.

Rest in Peace.

An unexpected call

AFS unexpectedly called me 10 minutes ago - I almost had a heart attack. Oh gosh. My heart is beating so fast!

They conducted, what I assumed was a phone interview for the scholarship I applied for.

From my hazy memory, it wasn't a long interview and I can only remember two questions they asked: 1) What would I do if I wanted to tell my host family something, but I couldn't because they can't speak English, and 2) Why do I want to go to Japan?

Pretty simple questions, but I was put on the spot and caught off guard. I hesitated and with silliness, forgot the first question and had to ask for them to repeat it.

I wish wish wish I had thought more about my answer before I actually said it. For the first question I chucked in something about acting out, drawing it out - but did it ever occur to me I could have said I could use a dictionary or google translator lol! And for the second question, I wish I added something about my future pursuits. Dammit. I did alright, but nto too good for the impromptu interview.

Guess I'll have to rely on my application to get me through.

Please, let it be this

Or the 4 week scholarship they offered me to apply for.

I will sit quetly, and hope that I did well enough, while my heart palpitates wildly to this unexpected phone call that would decide my fate for next year~

Okay~ Lets calm down girl! I'll be happy for any results~ Gap year or uni, I'll be satisfied with both, I guess. On a happier note, I officially have no more school assignments now (as I handed in that essay today!) yay

Daily life #1

Another uneventful day of bludge, bludge, bludge. I guess theres not much to type about besides the trivial things in life.

After this, I must resume (no actually, start) my final assignment/essay!

Borrowed a new book and returned the two I had previously finished reading:

[x] Hattie Big Sky by Kirby Larson - It was an enjoyable book, though lacking some romance. It was centered on the theme of family and self discovery. I do hope a sequel comes out - I found the ending lacking in concluding the protagonist's romances!
[x] Evernight by Claudia Gray - It was.... alright. It reminded me of... Twilight *gags*. Perhaps a bit better than Twilight, but nonetheless... Another angsty and juvenile teen vamp romance novel...

Also borrowed another book too: The Poison Throne by Celine Kiernan, part of the Moorehawke Trilogy. From what I gather (and I have yet to start reading it), its another three-part fantasy series, and like many fantasy novels I read (ala Tamora Pierce and Isobelle Camody and to an extent Felicity Pulman) centered around a strong heroine in a patriarchal society.

On another note, I feel lifeless like usual. Like nothing has a purpose in this continuous cycle. I think too much. I've been (no, not lately, rather it has always been like this) inside the house, in solitary company, even in fine weather. Or maybe it's because I've been finding myself reading the josei manga 君はペット (Kimi wa Pet) lately and I'm suggesting my future life may parallel the heroine's (for some... strange reason or another). I dwelve on things in my mind, things that I don't really have to think about. Maybe I should shut these cynical thoughts out and pretend to be at lease a little cheerful (this word 明るい would sound better though), I mean its been like this for a while now. Lie, lie, partial truth, lie. People say they want truth, but in reality, as cliche as it sounds, most cannot handle the truth. Hmmm, perhaps I should get out more and meet more people (perhaps with similar interest as I?).

Yes...And that is today.

Enough about me - Oh fudge; I just remembered that I must print some stuff for my Visual Arts Diary. Will get onto that after I finish that damned essay.

Simple Nails #1

I've been bored out of my wits today. But really, I should be doing something productive like studying, assignment-ing or at least brushing up on my Japanese or French skills :P

But no, I do my favourite thing - procrastination!

Today, I decided to make my nails a little bit presentable - resulting in me using what little I know about nails.

I'll spare you the mundane details, but I just used the materials below (ignore the make-shift 'background' I needed some piece of paper that was going to be chucked away so I would'nt get polish on the table!):

I used Cutex polish, the colour being "French Rose" and a Konad set which my lovely friends (yes, another freebie xD) got for my birthday.

^Just something simple. White stars using the Konad nail stamp set on clear-nails. I could'nt be bothered doing something extravagant (but then again, I'm not at the skill level to do so :P)

What do I think about Konad? I think that these affordable (though a little pricey over here because it's 'imported') are easy to use to create really cute decorations on nails (and even on mobile phones and other surfaces!). But the basic set is just what it is - basic. You have to buy other 'add-ons' including other 'special' nail polishes in different colours and more stamp plates to build a collection.

(Minus the actual stamp and swipe thingo) I only have four colours of the special polish used: red, blue, pink and white and three plates. The good thing however, is that you can mix colours (most obviously white and, say red for a pastel pink for example. Now I wonder why I bought the pink lol...) to create other colours.

I think I'll be looking to buy the yellow and green polishes and more plates in the future to add to my small collection and make cuter decorations (strawberries anyone? Stars should be yellow too btw~). /sigh I think the money will add up in th end - but once again, it's not that much, its just because I'm a cheapo!

I've been eyeing pastel coloured nail polishes. I hope they become popular in Australia soon, so I won't have to buy them online! Acrylic nails seems nice too... Though I don't have the courage to try them and they look very inconvenient.

Which reminds me.... I still have a set of butterfly nail stickers my friend got for me in America. I shall have to use them soon

Some make up + bday present review

Submitted my major work for Art this morning~ I have that off my hands - now only three assignments and a pile of language work needs to be completed, then I'll be able to rest for a bit AND then start studying for the big exams! Oh, and will search for formal dress near the end of term~

I received Yves Saint Laurent "The Bow Collection" Duo Lip Colour Palette and Lancome Paris Juicy Wear Top Coat for my birthday from my nephew/s and step-sister. Thank you! I must thank them again for it as they had remembered my birthday (:

On a random note, I'm sure people who know me would be surprised or amused to read this blog lol...

While testing these products, I realised how ugly my lips are haha. I personally like the light pink part of the palette as it appears more sweet, innocent-like (and natural to an extent? the glittery-like sheen of it, I thought was also cute), so I may occasionally use it when I go out, just so I don't just let it sit, rust and waste the make up~ The darker pink/red doesn't suit me at all!

I also tested out one Rimmel eye shadow palette I received from a relative ages ago. I think it was 010: Lazy Days:

I think this particular palette is quite cute, so I might use it more often in the future~

I've been relying on presents and freebies hehe. I think I might get some sample sets from gmarket (been eyeing the Tony Moly ones that I saw over here <-- great blog site by the way).

Been looking at the make up tutorials by korean uljjang Pony recently. She's really pretty and really adept from the looks of it~ I've saved a bunch of her tutorials which I shall try out on day (though I'll need to buy some particular colours of eye shadow palettes in order to do some of them~). Her Delicate Caramel and Golden Rosy tutorials in particular, caught my eye

DNA

Yesterday, I completed my speaking examination. The relief I feel - now that I have completed all of my HSC speaking examinations is immense! However, I must finish my major work for art by the end of today. I don't have much time, so I will try to start on it after I type up this blog post.

Hmm... Just recently found out something quite interesting through a random conversation with my mum; that my grandma's father was probably half Chinese and half-something else (I theorise that it was probably English or American, rather than Russian) making one of his parents Caucasian. Though apparently this great-grandfather of mine was adopted (?) and therefore did not know his real parents.

If this were true, I would perhaps be 1/16 something else. Nothing special, but I've always thought I was chinese-chinese.

I think this conversation started because I asked her, in humour, who I had inherited my eyes from and she replied saying it was probably her side because grandma has big eyes, double eyelids and when she was younger, light coloured eyes. Then she went on to say that it was probably because she was part, european/caucasian. And then, she mentioned the fact that her aunt had red hair and light (she said red?) eyes - I told her that it seemed more like this aunt was albino lol. (Though she did say that we'll visit this aunt if we went to China). I was a little surprised as I never heard of this before.

I then went on to question her and theroised who this mystery [foreign] man (we assume it was grandma's grandpa) was. It was quite interesting really...

This incident sparked my curiosity in genealogy and my family tree. And coincidentally, today on SBS there was a program called Who do you think you are? whiched explored the family history of the [British] celebrity that was the focus of the episode (there was 2 episodes back-to-back).

I would love to trace my family history - but unfortunately I doubt I would be able to find much, since our family in China (both present and past) were not particularly wealthy and I'm not sure how much documents are actually left to be used as clues (plus my Chinese is horrendous.)

This is probably a bit philosophical; but I think it's really fascinating how we, as humans and individuals are standing here - on earth - now, at this moment. This means we've had ancestors that have lived centuries ago, thousands of years ago. And we also may have relatives that we have never even heard of and will never hear of or meet.

And this leads to the title of my post - DNA. I want to get a blood or DNA test. I don't know my blood type and I'd like to know it. I would also like to discover the hidden data that could be discovered from DNA or blood - perhaps the components my ethnicity?

Random #1

Nnnnn... Japanese Extension speaking exam tomorrow. Very unprepared so I gotta use my time wisely tonight to study =[! Gosh, I'm so scared for that exam.

And then, after the exam, I'll have to hurry back home to work on my final piece of landscape painting for art, and then the day after that I must do my english assignment gahhh!!!

In the meantime, I shall procrastinate~

Been addicted to vocaloid songs and song covers from nico nico recently~

Will try to cover this song myself kekeke. Though I can't sing at all haha =P

Anyways~ I want short hair, but at the same time I don't. If I don't get the scholarship to go to Japan, I'll go get a haircut. I love YEH's style, so something like that will be nice (though I don't know if it'll suit me):

I also needa start thinking of buying a dress for the formal as well :/

This dress that I've been eyeing on gmarket for a long time seems cute:

But I would prefer something that I can try on before I buy. Will go dress shopping in a few weeks, after everything is done (BOW, homework, assignments etc)~

I also think this dress is lovely:

Hmmm... I doubt I'll find my 'ideal' dress so I'll do with what I find when I go shopping. Need to think about shoes, jewellery, (hair and body) accessories, push up bra and make up. I'm planning to buy some cosmetics from gmarket because I really want the Tony Moly lip tint! Really really! I must practice doing hair and makeup soon too if I plan to do tha myself. I've already got a photocopied image of the ideal hairstyle~

Garrghhh!!!! I'm seriously broke. I wonder how I'll afford all that. Might have to withdraw
emergency funds from the bank =[

Okay, must stop procrastinating!!!

Wishlist #1

I'm on a roll~ Yay for tinypic.com for image hosting ♥

My gosh, I want these items~

I want those heels. I've always wanted heels like those!

I've already put a bunch of items in my shopping cart but I need to delete some because I'm going broke! I did however, put Tony Moly lip tint (see above image) in it~ I want to use to for the formal. I've also put 4W Solution BB cream in the cart - I want to buy it for mummy because she's been using her foundation since... forever! Besides, BB cream should be pretty good as it whitens skin, minimizes appearance of wrinkles and pores and has SPF ♥

Think my bro said that he'll order it at the end of the week.

Hmm... must get back to studying for Japanese extension speaking. I've done more than enough procrastinating today.

I wonder if anyone has bought Tony Moly lip tint before? I should scour some blogs for reviews. I need someone to recommend me a good bb cream too~

Latest gmarket buys

Okay, so my bro and I ordered off gmarket a few weeks ago. One shirt I really wanted got canceled in the order though, so I only ended up with one shirt and a pair of earrings. We ordered our mum a wig hehe and bro my got a bunch of clothing (:

He ended up giving me two of the shirts he ordered because the size was too small.

I'll post some things up, but I can't post photos of it all because they're in the wardrobe and I'm lazy to get them out =P Maybe next time lol. Plus my camera batteries are out (recharging now) and these are the only pics I've got saved on the computer. Maybe I'll bug my bro and tell him to post up his buys too so the guys can get a feel for men's clothing on gmarket.

Bro ordered the white one of that. He really liked it but gave it to me because it was too small.

I ordered the white one. Even though it was being sold as guy's clothing, I still bought it anyway because it was cute (and besides, the model wearing it in one of the pictures was a girl) =P

On the right, modeling the heart shirt (must lose some weight for summer!). The left image is of a shirt that I bought off gmarket 1-2 years ago from a survey on soompi.

A pair of earrings I bought, it was so cheap!

Looks exactly like it~ And shiny~

Wig from gabalnara. (http://www.gmarket.co.kr/challenge_eng/neo_goods/goods.asp?goodscode=110799569&pos_shop_cd=SH&pos_class_cd=111111111&pos_class_kind=T&keyword_order=gabalnara)

And of course, I had to try it on. I wanted to see what I looked like with short hair lol.

Bonus selca image! I don't usually take a lot of selca lol. And if I do, they're always edited and cartoonified =P

Overall, my bro and I were satisfied with the order (minus a mishap in which bro got the wrong jacket he ordered, but he decided to keep it because he actually liked it lol!). The items we got was exactly like how it was in the image and the prices were very good!

We are going to order again sometime too. Next time, I will get some makeup (even though I don't use it often) - maybe bb cream (for my mum hehe)~

New beginning

It's been ages and I didn't actually get around to typing about my exchange (or writing a physical diary). My other blogs are sort of dead as well (ameblo and my bento blog that I barely started).

I've decided to transform this blog into a random blog my my daily life, in particular, a place to vent, post my internet buyings, things that interest me (either online or in real life). I will be focusing on my buys, particularly from the wonderful G-market (:

Alright! Lets hope for a new beginning! I will try to post, even though I have my HSC coming up hehe =P
